A fast-paced, colourful, arcade racer that captures the spirit of ‘Daytona USA’, with the blended art styles of ‘Sonic Riders’ & ’90’s Arcade Racer.’

Velocità has a very heavy emphasis on visual flare and aesthetic, and we wanted this to be obvious from the moment the player turns on the game. While the menus & interfaces take a minimalist approach, the environmental assets and scenery are far from it. Bright, vibrant colours adorn each corner of the track, matching with the main gameplay gimmick of coloured Power-Ups.

Characters are semi-cartoon looking, somewhat akin to those from Jet Set Radio, and the hoverboards take visual inspiration from the Sonic Riders series.

Inspired by the classic Daytona USA track ‘Three-Seven Speedway’, New Velo City sets the bar for the rest of the game, and lets players know what kind of experience they’re in for. The track consists of three corners, and three different aesthetics. Six key Landmarks range from a large blimp, to a towering skyscraper. Their purpose is to ensure the player always has something interesting to look at. The overall visual style is bright, and vibrant. Never a dull moment in New Velo City!

Shield / Force Shield

Novelty is one of Velocità’s three core pillars. This is expressed through the implementation of Power-Ups. Each one is colour-coded in the same fashion as the four playable characters. While any racer can use any Power-Up, racers will receive benefits from using the Power-Up that matches their colour.  This is called a Match Bonus.

The visual design and functionality of the Power-Ups are intentionally a bit wacky, and unrealistic, which adds to the overall chaos of the competitive couch multiplayer experience.

Artwork from Velocità was even used for the 2017 AIE Graduate Showcase information slip!
